We plan to provide Denby Dale and surrounding villages with faster broadband, improved telephone and TV services and local service and support. This entails installing our own equipment in street cabinets. Fibre-optic cables will connect the cabinets to the internet via the nearest telephone exchanges. This means the current long runs of copper, which make broadband speeds so poor, would be reduced dramatically. Our cabinets are really mini telephone exchanges. The resulting very short run of copper phone line from our cabinet to your premises means you will have the fastest possible broadband speed for any rural village in the UK - up to 40Mbps. Rutland Telecom is the only UK operator to have commercially deployed this technology with full access to copper phone lines from street cabinets. The capital costs of installing cabinets and connecting the fibre are significant - hence the level of indicative responses required to convince us (and our investors) that this is a viable option. However if most of the community supports the initiative, then the cost per premises is not great considering the benefits of Next Generation Broadband. A feasibility study was commissioned by Denby Dale Area Committee and Parish Council. This was completed by Rutland Telecom in December 2009.The next stage is to assess the level of interest in the different villages.![]() |
Speeds of up to 40Mbps (80x faster than many residents are getting now) and greater reliability should be expected. The technology is known as VDSL. Future-proofing comes with the possibility that services could be delivered via Fibre to the Home (FTTH) as is increasingly the case in Japan, Norway USA etc. All our cabinets are pre-installed with fibre capability. Some benefits of Next Generation Broadband:

the service but you can see what Rutland Telecom currently charges for

telecommunications. Lyddington was the first UK small village to receive Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) coupled with fully unbundled lines. Denby Dale could soon follow. If you wish to support the initiative please complete the form below - this as a no-obligation registration of interest. We are looking for at least 30% of premises pre-registering to roll out the first cabinets (450 out of 1500 premises). In total up to 6500 premises could potentially be covered by our Next Generation Broadband cabinets. Any enquiries should be directed to Mark Melluish 01572 858 858 info@rutlandtelecom.co.uk |
