| Morcott-Seaton-Harringworth-Barrowden Fast Broadband Project |

| We propose upgrading Morcott telephone
exchange to make available Next Generation Broadband to all premises in Seaton,
Harringworth, Barrowden and Morcott. This entails installing our own modern
ADSL2+ equipment and fibre optic links in the telephone exchange allowing us to
compete directly with BT who use old ADSL equipment with limited broadband
speeds. We take over your phone line and any association the customer has with
BT ends. The same applies to any company who resells BT's service like Sky,
TalkTalk, Tiscali, Utility Warehouse, Demon, Pipex, AOL etc. BT is the only
provider in Morcott exchange at present.
Morcott exchange will be connected to our core network in London using gigabit fibre optic cables - these are already in place between Uppingham and London. The capital costs of upgrading Morcott exchange are relatively high for a small company - hence the level of indicative responses that were required to convince us that this was is viable option. When we see that level of interest we will proceed with making a service available. Speeds up to 24Mbps, lower contention ratios and greater reliability should be expected. Future-proofing comes with the possibility that 2 lines can be bonded to achieve higher speeds (up to 48Mbps) or services could be delivered via Fibre to the Cabinet or Fibre to the Home as is increasingly the case in Japan, Norway USA etc. This is achieved by installing street cabinets in each village but the feedback we have had from the villages suggests there is insufficient demand for such a major investment at this stage. Upgrading Morcott is the first stage in the process of delivering 100Mbps and beyond to each home anyway and we are prepared to make that initial investment now. |
There was a presentation in Seaton Village
Hall in October 2009. 35 people attended and 2 options were discussed:
installing a street cabinet in the village, like we have done in Lyddington, or
upgrading Morcott exchange. Update 12/1/10: Rutland Telecom announces its intention to upgrade Morcott if it receives 100 no-obligation expressions of interest including 50 firm orders with a £30 deposit. Pre-register for fast broadband in these villages
Phone calls will be delivered over our network and customers can retain their existing number. Our network has unparalleled low contention ratios meaning the slow broadband experienced so far will be a thing of the past. Broadband speeds will increase two to three times but more importantly you will not suffer poor connection when thousands of users clog up the BT network. Upload speeds will be much improved. BBC iPlayer and YouTube will play seamlessly and SKY TV can be delivered via broadband for less than the cost via a satellite dish - excellent news for these beautiful villages. |
